THINKSYNC FILMS COMPETITION FOR INDIE FILM AND MUSIC INDUSTRIESThinkSync Films has launched its competition for independent filmmakers for the second year running. Founded in 2006 under the name Cacophony Presents… by Connie Farr (of Cacophony Music) and Oli Harbottle (formerly of Raindance Film Festival and now of Dogwoof Pictures), the competition is designed to search out, celebrate and reward creative new independent film making talent, with particular attention to the role music plays.
The competition states that entrants are to submit shorts (with a maximum length of ten minutes) that best incorporate one or more of a selection of tracks provided as free downloads by Thinksync Films on their website www.thinksyncfilms.com. No other music (other than these tracks provided) is to feature in the short and it cannot be a 'music video', rather the short must incorporate the track(s).
As a result of the success of last year's competition, which received over 200 submissions, numerous top independent labels have come on board to offer tracks – these include Big Dada, Chew The Fat, Ninja Tunes and Southern Fried Records, along with labels from last year including Digital Hardcore Recordings and Rotters' Golf Club.
There will be a selection of over 30 tracks covering a variety of genres and artists from electronic and instrumental through to drum & bass and rock.
Finally, just to add another element, the theme for this year's competition is 'TWIST', with each film allowed to interpret this in any way it sees fit.
The five finalists will be screened as part of a special event which will also include performances from some of the labels involved. Last year saw a raucous party for over 500 people with performances from Andrew Weatherall, Radioactive Man and Addictive TV amongst others.
Deadline for entries is 30th June. Full details for the competition, along with the selected tracks and rules and regulations, can be found at www.thinksyncfilms.com
